The Big Release – Apples big Show

All those goodies!

Apple recently held is yearly product event in which it flashed the world with its new fancy toys. In this post we will be looking at just what has been given to us to enjoy for the coming year. The event was held in Cupertino. Tim Cook started with his yearly routine of telling us just how great Apple is and how they have had an amazing year of sales. Non of this of course is a lie because Apple have truly been on roll lately.
So lets dig in. Apple started us off with the new iPad Pro. This iPad is both larger and faster than all other iPad’s on the market. The screen comes to a total of 12.9 inches. The screen has a ipad-progreat resolution of 2756 x 1768 which can rival most high end laptop screens out there. In addition, the iPad Pro comes with the newest A9X processor chip set. This chip should be 1.8 times faster than its predecessor.

The iPad Pro comes in at 6.9 millimeters thick and weighs a little over 700 grams. Using this iPad in combination with the newest Smart keyboard cover, you can almost start to question the need for a laptop. The cover and the keyboard are ipad-pro-keyconnected via the smart port. Apple has also introduced the Apple pencil which feels a lot like the S Pen from Samsung. Apple gave use some great examples of the use of this pencil during their keynote session.

The prices of the iPad Pro and its accessories, like we are used to from apple, are not light on the wallet. The 32GB version comes in at just under 800 Dollars, 799 to be exact. The 128GB version will cost you 949 Dollars, the 4G version a bump up too 1079. Keyboard and Pencil will add up too 259 Dollars for the set and can be bought separately for 169 for the keyboard and 99 for the pencil.

Next on the list is Apple TV. In short, Apple TV turns your home TV set into a big iPhone or iPad. This is what we have been able to learn from Tim Cooks presentation about the device. It will allow you to stream video, apps and browse on your TV. For the 32GB version you will have to dish out 149 Dollars, the 64GB will come in at 199 Dollars. apple-tv-2015

Last but most definitely not least, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. The key features of this device are: 4.7-inch, 326ppi LCD; 7.1mm thick; 143g; 1.8GHz Dual-Core; 2GB RAM; 16/64/128GB storage ; 12-megapixel iSight camera; 5-megapixel Facetime HD camera. The new S variant of the iPhone 6 is once again a fast and smooth looking device. As always it has no change in exterior besides a little added weight and 0.2 mm thickness. The screen once again looks amazing and the besides this there is very little to say about the device.iphone-6s-6splus

New specs are out for the Nokia Lumia 950 and 950 XL

We all love specs & who doesn’t love a large version of any device these days…

In a few days, October 6th, Microsoft shall finally uncover its new flagship devices. With almost 100% certainty we can say its going to be the Lumia 950 and Lumia 960 XL. There has been quiet a bit of speculation over the last few weeks and months about these devices.

The most recent news, or leak shall we say, is a picture of a slide where you can see the specs of these devices in Spanish. On these slides we can find the important specs for the Lumia 950. Right on the picture, a little less clear, are some specs we can see of the Lumia 950 XL. Microsoft has refused to comment on the leak, but on the images, its looking pretty good.lumia-950xl-slide-rumor

The specs that can be seen on the slides pretty much correspond with the leaks that have been coming out over the last few months. You can clearly see that the display will be a 5.7 inch QHD screen for the 950 XL. The Lumia 950 will have a slightly smaller screen coming in at 5.2 inches. It will however, also have a QHD resolution screen (2560 x 1440). The Lumia 950 will have a Hexa core Snapdragon 808 processor and 3000 mAh battery while the 950 XL ill be fitter with a octa-core Snapdragon 810 chip and 3300 mAh battery. With regards to the other specs, these are mostly identical. Both Lumia’s will be fitted with a 20 megapixel PureView camera on the back. On the front they will have a 5 megapixel selfie cam and an iris scanner which can be used to unlock your device for apps duck as Microsoft Hello. A few weeks ago we got a demo on this new feature. Both devices will come with a 3GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage. As always, a microSD slot is available.

I made a big mistake – iPhone 6 Plus

Watch this review by TechnoBuffalo about his thoughts on the iPhone 6 Plus. Could this be a warning to all of you who are looking to move over to the iPhone 6s Plus this coming September?

Q&A on the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus

So what’s with the name: iPhone 6s and 6s Plus?

Apple has followed the same “tick-tock” update cycle since 2008. Every year the number is bumped up with either an addition “s” or whole number. The design is changed only with the increase in whole number and minor adjustments to the design are made with the “s” versions. 3G and 3GS, 4 and 4s, and 5 and 5s. So, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus is the presumption for this year.

Apple can of course change its course anytime it likes. However as of now it seems that will not be the case. In addition, why would they? Its simple and people seem to like it.

When can I get my hands on one?

As tradition has shown of the last few years, Apple has announced their new devices in the middle of the second week of September. They are then shipped by the end of the month. As the names, Apple can change this routine at any time, but as we all know, the special holiday seasons are coming and its prime time for parents and lovers to be dropping big bucks for fancy things. iPhone anyone?

But the competition is also running at full speed!

That is always the case, but Apple seems to be able to make big bucks no matter what is going on. The best advice we can give you is to wait until the end of September. Once you have all the offerings available, you can make the best decision as to what suits you.

Will iOS 9 be coming with the new iPhones?

For sure! Apply always released the new version of their iOS right before they announce new phones, so we should see both in a couple of days. The new iOS will be installed on all the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices.

What size would the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus be?

If we look at historical data, it is clear to predict that the “s” model will be identical in casing to the year before. If Apple decides to keep the same design for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, that means we will get the same screen (4.7-inch) and the same Plus screen.

What about a new iPhone 6c with smaller screen?

There have been rumors of an iPhone 6c, which would be an iPhone 5c updated with iPhone 6-class specs. There are reasons why an iPhone 6c might make sense. Ultimately, however, Apple will decide how many new iPhones the company can optimally make and market at once, and what sizes best suit their customer base.

There have been rumors going around of an iPhone 6c, which would be the new version of the old faithful iPhone 5c. However we still have to wait and see exactly what will happen with this new device as the former was not such a success. Rumor also has it that it will have a smaller 4-inch screen like the the iPhone 5s. Once again, we will have to wait and see.

Will the new iPhones have a faster processor?

Like many things, Apply likes to follow tradition. Each upgrade or new device means a faster phone. So we can rest assure that the new “s” models will deliver on that front. We are not sure what the processor will be or how fast it will be, but one this is for sure, Apple mostly does not disappoint.

What about the Camera, I need a better camera for my selfies!

Apple loves cameras and they’ve also been a big focus of every event since the iPhone 4. Cameras are also among the most important features for iPhone owners, so there’s no chance that’ll stop any time soon.

Apple and its fans love cameras. It has been a major focus since the iPhone 4. For most people who buy an iPhone, the camera is a big push in the direction of spending an arm and a leg to get the device. So the chances that Apple stops upgrading its big sell story is very slim. You can expect a great new camera with cool functions like seeing through walls. Just kidding about the walls but they seem to always have something you never really need.

Stay classy.

Do we and Apple really need another iPhone 6C?

As every September, speculations are flooding the world wide web as to what the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will look like, but what about the iPhone 6c?

While this logically is consuming the mind of all tech and Apple fans out there, I believe what happens to the iPhone 5c will be much more important in respect to Apple’s 2016 approach.

As the numbers clearly show, the iPhone 5c has not been the greatest of phones for Apple. You could almost say it was a long shot away from being a successful device, even by Apple’s admission. So what went wrong? Well in my opinion a few things went wrong that I hope will not be repeated should Apple decide to move ahead with the iPhone 6c.

The first real issue with the former C model, the iPhone 5c, was the price. Everyone has generally expect it to be much cheaper than its more luxurious counterpart. Regardless of there being no historical evidence to support this idea, people still believed the cheaper plastic case would result in a low end model and therefore a low end price. When the iPhone 5c finally hit the market, nothing could have been farther from the truth. The phone therefore was not as appealing to the low end market as one would have hoped. In addition, in some markets, due to various taxes and currency exchange rates, the iPhone 5c was even more expensive than the iPhone 5s. Wait what? Yes…what does the iPhone 6C look like

With the idea in peoples mind that the iPhone 5c variant was the cheaper model of the iPhone 5 series, the idea of “cheap” did not do well for the image of the device. It gave the impression that the iPhone 5c lacked much of what a customer desired from a high end flagship device. It pushed consumers to spend less and get the flagship older generation device such as the iPhone 4s. At this time the 4s was offered at a very competitive price, but did not lose its “flagship” status.

So who actually bought it? Well the statistics are dull and we do not need to get into it. The most important thing was that people liked the idea of a more durable phone. The plastic back gave it a feel of more protection.

So what should Apple do for the upcoming iPhone 6C. Well the most important take away is that the price should reflect its position in the minds of consumers. It should be a chunk cheaper than the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 model. A larger screen should be an option but is still early days until we see just how successful the screen enlargement move was for Apple.

P8 Lite – We believe the lite refers to the weight on your wallet!

Huawei has been around for some time now and has found its place on the smartphone world map. Flag ship models like the P8 and the Mate 7 are really trying their best to break into the premium segment and have been showing signs of success. All the way from looks to specs, they are doing there bit in the cut throat competition of smartphones. Huawei has been trying for some time to show itself as a true quality driven company and not one that relies on the on, “Its will save me a bit of money” group.

The Huawei P8 joined the party with a quality build and matching price tag. The only thing it left out was high quality performance. Now we get to have a look at the Huawei P8 Lite. Cheaper and a little less bang.

Personalised Huawei P8 Lite

As you can imagine, the LITE version attempts to be an affordable and equally stylish flagship model. A phone which imitates its big brother but still feels like he knows what he’s talking about. But imitations only go so far. With the almost 50% price cut, they had to drop the metal and go for plastic. Most of the hardware is also toned down to a point you start to question the value of it.

Like most Huawei handsets, the P8lite is power by on of the company’s own chipsets – The HiSilicon Kirin 620. There is also a Snapdragon 615 variant of the same phone which is solely set for the US market. We got our hands on both versions so we’ll be able to give you a look at both.

Key features

    • Dual SIM
    • 5.0″ 720p IPS LCD (294 ppi) capacitive touchscreen
    • Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 620 chipset – octa-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A53, Mali-450MP4 GPU; 2GB of RAM;
    • US version: Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 – quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & quad-core 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53, Adreno 405; 2GB of RAM;
    • 13MP autofocus camera with LED flash, 1080p video recording
    • 5MP front-facing camera, 720p video recording, selfie panorama mode
    • Android OS v5.0 Lollipop with Emotion UI 3.1
    • 16GB of built-in storage; microSD card slot, doubling as a secondary SIM slot on the Dual SIM model
    • Cat. 4 LTE (150Mbps); Dual-band Wi-Fi b/g/n; Bluetooth 4.0; GPS/GLONASS/; FM radio; NFC; microUSB port
    • Active noise cancellation with a dedicated mic
    • 2200mAh battery

Huawei might have dropped some of those true Flagship traits but its still a great quality phone. The looks great and has a solid feel to it, everything is tightly assembled. They did a great job on the frame and it even has a brushed-metal look to it. We will have to give this device a benchmark test to see what its really made of.

China is the fuel on the fire for Apple – Not the watch

downloadA great article written by Engadgets Senior editor: Chris Velazco about the true drivers of growth for Apple:

“It’s that time again — Apple just dropped its Q3 2015 earnings and despite missing Wall Street’s always-lofty expectations, it’s been a solid three months of growth thanks to the two usual suspects. Say it with us now, folks: It’s all thanks to the iPhone and China. (If you’re the sort who cares, Apple just missed most Wall Street estimates by posting earnings of $1.85 per share.)

Just under 27 percent of the 49.6 billion dollars in revenue Apple generated in the past three months was thanks to Greater China, which is more than double the amount of the pie the country accounted for this time last year. (The addition of a ritzy, massive new Apple store in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong should help wealthy mainlanders get their fix that much easier, too). Meanwhile, iPhones were still far and away the most sought after gadgets in Apple’s portfolio with 47.5 million moved in a single quarter — not quite as much as last quarter’s blowout but a big lift over the year before. To hear CEO Tim Cook tell…”
